OmniAir Global Plugfest

September 28 – October 15

Over the past three years, OmniAir Consortium has broadened its international reach with each new plugfest event. Beginning with our first event in 2017 in San Francisco, California to our most recent event in Malaga, Spain.

Today, OmniAir is proud to announce our first truly worldwide plugfest event – the OmniAir Global Plugfest!

OmniAir has reimagined its highly successful connected vehicle testing event. This full-scale event will allow participants the opportunity to participate in virtual networking, tune into content from industry experts and thought leaders,  and engage in extensive conformance and interoperability testing from the comfort of their home office. This year’s event will feature testing hubs, strategically placed around the world, to provide access to vendors from the ease of their computers. Hybrid testing will consist of a combination of in-person testing, conducted by OmniAir Authorized test lab (OATL) personnel, and virtual witnessing for C-V2X and DSRC devices at each location.

The OmniAir Global Plugfest, is a multi-week testing event with a focus on cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) testing. There also remains a component for continued testing of dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) devices.

The primary objective of the Global Plugfest is to evaluate our alpha set of test cases developed for OmniAir’s C-V2X certification program for roadside-units (RSU) and onboard-units (OBU), to be launched later this year. All newly developed C-V2X test cases will be packaged and distributed to OmniAir member test equipment providers and C-V2X device makers by August 17.

Each week OmniAir technical staff and participating OmniAir Authorized Test Labs (OATL), with a combination of test equipment provided by OmniAir member companies, will perform tests for our members and strategic partners. V2X device makers can choose to send their connected vehicle devices to any participating testing site, where they will have the option to attend in person, experience device testing through virtual witnessing via video platform, or arrange a consultation to discuss results.

Upon completion of event registration, OmniAir will provide participants with shipping instructions, as well as instructions for testing. Like all Plugfest events, this event will be cooperative, and all V2X devices can be tested at each hub.

The OmniAir Global Plugfest will offer the following testing for conformance, interoperability, and security in both lab and field environments. In collaboration with the City of Austin, we have the unique opportunity to conduct field testing in a live traffic environment on the streets of downtown!

  • Radio testing for C-V2X PC5 and DSRC
  • Conformance testing against OmniAir specifications for DSRC
  • Conformance testing against existing OmniAir specifications for C-V2X
  • BSM Performance & Location Accuracy Testing for DSRC
  • BSM Drive Comparison Testing for DSRC and possibly C-V2X
  • SCMS Security Certificate Testing (including new OmniAir security test cases)
  • Reference Device Testing Availability for Certified DSRC Device with Stakeholder (limit two)

There are two active testing hubs each week over a three week period. V2X device makers will have the opportunity to have their units tested at each hub, by OmniAir, OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories and OmniAir Qualified Test Equipment and OmniAir member test equipment.

  • Week 1 (September 28 – October 2) – Malaga, Spain and Austin, Texas
  • Week 2 (October 5-8) – Seoul, Korea
  • Week 3 (October 12-16) – Detroit, Michigan and San Diego, California
