New OmniAir Working Group on Network-Based V2X
News
January 30, 2026
OmniAir Consortium, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, is forming a new working group focused on testing and certification needs for network-based V2X solutions.
Since 2021, OmniAir has offered the world’s first independent, third-party testing and certification program for LTE-V2X Direct communications (PC5) equipment, including on-board units (OBU), roadside units (RSU), and modules. However, as more infrastructure owner-operators pilot and deploy network-based V2X solutions, it is important to ensure that devices and systems are interoperable, conform to industry standards, and can be trusted for safety-critical functions.
As V2X deployments continue to scale, network-centric considerations are becoming increasingly important. The Network V2X Working Group will focus on developing requirements and test procedures to ensure the availability of trusted, interoperable V2X solutions for deployment, whether network-based or direct communications.
Key topic areas include network performance requirements, quality of service, latency and reliability, network slicing, edge computing, roaming, credential and identity management, and the interaction between V2X devices and operator networks. The working group will develop recommendations, use cases, and test considerations to help inform OmniAir certification programs and support scalable, interoperable Network V2X deployments.
The working group is chaired by Ted Sadler, WSP, V2X Solutions Architect, Midwest, and Senior Technical Manager.
“I am thrilled and humbled by the trust OmniAir and WSP in the U.S. have placed in me to help lead this new V2X Technical Working Group. As V2X technology merges with mobile and cloud communications, certification and testing will be crucial to ensure the same standard of V2X interoperability is maintained across these new mediums. This working group is an important opportunity for industry and agency stakeholders to come together and shape the new, networked generation of V2X,” said Sadler.
“The launch of the Network V2X Working Group comes at an important moment for the industry,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir. “Ted Sadler’s background in V2X architecture and real-world implementation makes him uniquely qualified to guide collaboration across network, infrastructure, and automotive stakeholders.”
Organizing Meeting
The initial meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, at 2 pm ET. The group will meet monthly or as needed.
Get involved
OmniAir invites interested members to participate. We will also invite select subject matter experts from across government, industry, and academia to ensure broad participation. Working Group participants will help to shape practical guidance and certification approaches that reflect real-world network deployments.
