OmniAir Consortium, its partners, and participating members gathered for the first time in over 18 months for the OmniAir Michigan Plugfest. Thanks to the event host, Danlaw Inc., event partner, Mcity Test Facility, and all of our participating members, the event was a resounding success!
The week-long testing event brought together leading C-V2X device manufacturers, test laboratories, and test equipment providers from Europe, Asia, and North America for our first C-V2X focused Plugfest.
Bench testing took place at the Danlaw Inc. headquarters in Novi, Michigan. Field testing was hosted at the state-of-the-art connected vehicle proving grounds at the Mcity Test Facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Michigan Plugfest had an impressive gathering of 14 C-V2X test equipment providers offering both bench and field testing and 20 unique C-V2X On-Board Unit (OBU) and Roadside Unit (RSU) connected vehicle devices. The combination of 20 C-V2X OBUs and RSUs came from 11 participating device vendors including, Applied Information, Autotalks, Cohda Wireless, Commsignia, Continental, Danlaw, Harman, Hitachi, Kapsch, Siemens, and Qualcomm.
The devices under test (DUTs) took advantage of 1609.2 security, multi-root, and SCMS certificate provisioning from five PKI providers Autocrypt, Blackberry, Escrypt, Integrity Security Services, and Microsec.
Anritsu, Keysight, NI, Nordsys, Rohde & Schwarz, S.E.A. Datentechnik GmbH, Spirent, and Wayties provided 156 individual test sessions offering a wide array of tests including PHY, J3161/1 Radio, Applications, 1609.3 NS, J2735 WSMs, J2945/1 BSMs, RSU 4.1 and SNMP. In addition to the test equipment providers, DEKRA, our first OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory (OTAL) contributed to the testing efforts.

OmniAir Plugfests are an excellent opportunity to determine the readiness of the V2X industry and to prepare devices, test equipment, and test laboratories for our certification, qualification, and authorization programs. OmniAir certification is successful because we certify RSU and OBU devices with OmniAir Qualified test systems used by laboratories, OATLs, that OmniAir has audited and authorized to provide third-party validation testing.
There is no substitute for OmniAir’s C-V2X certification program. Our C-V2X device certification program is comprehensive and covers radio functionality, the V2X stack, message compliance protocols, radio integration into a device, applications, location accuracy, and device security. End users can be assured that an OmniAir certified device conforms to industry standards and is interoperable.
