The Intelligent Transport Society of Korea (“ITS Korea“) has joined OmniAir Consortium® as an Executive-Level Member.

This is the first international intelligent transportation organization to become an OmniAir® member, and will help to deepen OmniAir’s ties with intelligent ITS stakeholders in Korea, and help to promote the alignment of V2X testing and certification programs between Asia and North America.

“Korea is a recognized leader in the deployment of life-saving connected vehicle technologies,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium.  “We are excited to have ITS Korea as our newest Executive Level Member, helping to shape the future of OmniAir’s certification programs around the world.”

Founded in 1999, ITS Korea’s mission is to promote mutual cooperation among the public and private sectors for efficient implementation of intelligent transportation systems (“ITS”) and to contribute to the development of the ITS field through various research, policy consultation, technology promotion, and business activities related to ITS.

ITS Korea is the organization dedicated to ITS standardization, designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (“MOLIT”), which evaluates and determines the compliance with technical regulations based on Korea’s National Transport System Efficiency Act and its enforcement ordinance and enforcement regulations.

OmniAir Consortium and ITS Korea have entered into agreements to help promote interoperability and certification for V2X connected vehicle technologies.

ITS Korea and OmniAir are working cooperatively to ensure that testing and certification programs for OBUs and RSUs in the United States and Korea are aligned.  The organizations have formed a “United States – Korea Cooperation Committee,” which is working toward establishment of a joint certification mark, and other activities to promote harmonization of testing and certification efforts.
