The USDOT will host a free public webinar on the new SCMS POC, a temporary security system that will enable the Department’s connected vehicle projects to address unanswered questions regarding the exchange of information among vehicles, roadway infrastructures, traffic management centers, and wireless mobile devices.
BACKGROUND
The USDOT is committed to ensuring that connected vehicle technologies operate in a safe, secure, and privacy-protective manner. For this reason, the USDOT has partnered with the automotive industry and industry security experts through the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partnership (CAMP) to implement a temporary POC security system. Through this message security solution for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, the Department’s connected vehicle projects can trust in the validity of information received from each component within the system–indistinct users whom they have never met and do not know personally.
