OmniAir’s First C-V2X Plugfest is June 14
OmniAir Michigan Plugfest will be the first Plugfest in North America exclusively-focused on testing and readiness of C-V2X-based Connected Vehicle technologies.
The event, hosted by Danlaw in Novi, MI, is scheduled for June 14-18. Field testing will take place at the University of Michigan’s Mcity facility in Ann Arbor.
Similar to our 2020 OmniAir Global Plugfest, OmniAir will facilitate both in-person testing, as well as remote testing and witnessing for both lab and field testing.
The OmniAir Michigan Plugfest will bring together leading automotive OEMs, suppliers, test labs, equipment vendors, engineering firms, and SCMS providers, for a week of intensive conformance, interoperability, security, and field testing in a confidential and cooperative environment. Testing will be offered for both C-V2X (LTE-V2X PC5) On-Board Units (OBUs) and Roadside Units (RSUs).
OmniAir Plugfests are designed to help device manufacturers to ensure their devices conform with published industry standards and are interoperable, in preparation for certification testing and deployment. Participants will have the opportunity to test and improve their devices with help from leading C-V2X experts in a cooperative and confidential environment. The week-long event will help focus engineering resources to bring test equipment and devices one step closer to being market-ready.
The event helps to identify issues and determine if the cause is with a specific test case, test equipment, device, or a combination of all. This one week of testing with experts in every field will help identify and find solutions that might take a company months of research to solve alone.
The OmniAir Michigan Plugfest will offer testing for conformance, interoperability, and security with bench testing. Indoor laboratory testing will occur at the Danlaw facility, our event host, June 14-16, and field testing will take place at Mcity on June 17 and 18.
Test cases will be drawn from OmniAir’s LTE-V2X Certification Program. This program, which will launch in April, will offer the world’s first comprehensive testing and certification program for LTE-V2X OBUs and RSUs.
Participants will take advantage of the following bench and field tests:
- Radio testing for LTE-V2X (C-V2X PC5)
- Upper Layer Conformance testing against OmniAir specifications for LTE-V2X (C-V2X PC5)
- BSM Performance & Location Accuracy Testing for DSRC (upon advance request) and LTE-V2X (C-V2X PC5)
- BSM Application Drive Comparison Testing for LTE-V2X (C-V2X PC5
- SCMS Security Certificate Testing and Multi-source Certificate Interoperability Testing
In conjunction with the Plugfest, OmniAir will host an online technical workshop and parallel technical learning sessions for participants, focused on standards development, deployments, and testing around the world.
Space is limited. Those wishing to participate as a test station operator or a device manufacturer are encouraged to register now.

OmniAir Welcomes NI as our Newest Member
OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, announced that NI has joined OmniAir as an Associate-Level Member.
NI, formerly National Instruments Corporation, is a provider of software-defined platforms that help accelerate automated test and measurement systems’ development and performance. NI’s focus on research, prototyping, validation, and collaboration with test equipment providers is a perfect complement to further OmniAir’s certification program.
Through their collaboration with OmniAir member S.E.A. Datentechnik GmbH (S.E.A.), they are solving two critical industry needs – developing a portable radio packet capture (sniffer) tool and a complete C-V2X test system for testing C-V2X radios. NI has helped maximize S.E.A.’s test systems’ full potential by providing a software-defined approach to help automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers validate the readiness of their C-V2X devices before formally entering OmniAir’s C-V2X certification program.
“We are excited to welcome NI as the newest OmniAir member,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director for OmniAir Consortium. “NI is a recognized global leader in providing testing solutions. Their deep expertise in V2X and automotive testing will help OmniAir advance its certification programs for connected vehicles.”
OmniAir is eager to see their test systems in the hands of OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories (OATL), OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and deploying agencies. These test systems will be utilized during the upcoming OmniAir Michigan Plugfest, June 14-18. Contact Ryan Hall, Senior Director of Business Development to learn more about the Michigan Plugfest and how you can have your C-V2X device tested by these systems.

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, announced today that the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission (Ohio Turnpike) has joined OmniAir as an Associate-Level Member.
Headquartered in Berea, Ohio, the Ohio Turnpike’s traffic has grown from 44,000 vehicles using the facility on opening day in 1955, to nearly 55 million vehicle trips per year today. In 1956, the first full year of operation, some 10 million cars and trucks used the Ohio Turnpike.
“OmniAir is excited to add the Ohio Turnpike to its growing list of innovative leaders in the transportation industry,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “OmniAir looks forward to their contributions to our working groups, especially our forward-looking tolling and emerging payments working group.”
“The Ohio Turnpike continues to innovate and is constructing an all-new Open Road Tolling system between now and 2023,” said Ohio Turnpike Executive Director Ferzan M. Ahmed, P.E. “The modernized system will allow motorists with E-ZPass transponders to use gateless entry and exit lanes, allowing customers to travel more efficiently through the toll plazas.”
As a part of their environmental initiatives and spirit of innovation, the Commission is in the process of gathering information about potential solar energy projects to generate clean power for the Commission’s facilities. It also has four electric vehicle charging stations and is in the process of implementing even more across the 241-mile tollway.
