OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, announces that Oregon Department of Transportation has joined OmniAir® as an Associate Level Member.

Oregon Department of Transportation’s mission is to “provide a safe and reliable multimodal transportation system that connects people and helps Oregon’s communities and economy thrive.” That mission encompasses transportation planning, developing, managing and maintaining the state highway system, transportation safety, rail safety, licensing and regulation of drivers, motor vehicles and motor carriers, assistance to public transportation providers, passenger rail, active transportation, and more.

Oregon has been a transportation funding pioneer since it enacted the nation’s first gas tax in 1919. It continues this trend as an early adopter of road usage charging (also known as VMT pricing or mileage-based user fees).  Following two successful pilots in 2006 and 2012, Oregon DOT launched the OReGo program in 2015, the first ongoing road usage charge program in the nation. (Utah just launched its ongoing road usage charge program in 2020.)

“OmniAir is excited to have a recognized leader in smart mobility like Oregon DOT as our newest member,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium.  “Oregon DOT’s experience with road pricing will help to ensure OmniAir’s certification programs meet the needs of new and emerging transportation payment technologies.”

Maureen Bock, Oregon DOT’s Chief Innovation Officer, will be the guest speaker at OmniAir’s Monthly Membership meeting on March 26th.  For more information, please contact Kate Oldham, OmniAir’s Sr. Director of Meetings and Membership

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for Connected Vehicles is launching a new initiative, focused on developing certification tests for V2X applications.

To support this effort, Omniair has formed a new Sub-Group to the existing Technical Working Group.  The Application Testing Sub-Group will initially focus on identifying and developing conformance bench and field testing for critical baseline applications from the V2X standards requiring certification.  Applications like Vehicle Pre-emption, Forward Crash Warning or Left Turn Assist under consideration for testing using BSM, SPaT, MAP, RSM (TIM) message types.  Bench Application Testing and its certification is possible with graphics and simulation capabilities of emerging 5G radio test equipment.

“With the increasing number vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and vehicle-to-pedestrian (V2P) applications, there is a growing need for testing and certification,” said Jason Conley Executive Director, OmniAir Consortium.  “OmniAir’s new V2X Application Testing Initiative aimed at addressing this critical need.

Hassen Alwalie, ITS Project Manager – Connected Vehicles for Danlaw, will serve as the Chair of the new Sub-Group.

OmniAir is currently recruiting volunteers with the requisite expertise and experience to contribute to this effort.  Specifically, we are seeking V2X engineers, software experts, and representatives from automotive OEMs, device manufacturers, municipalities, test labs, and test equipment vendors.

The V2X Application Testing Sub-Group will hold a face-to-face, kick-off on Thursday, April 30 during the Lone Star Plugfest in Austin, Texas.

With nearly 200 test cases already a part of OmniAir’s certification program, we are excited to see where the application conformance testing from the V2X Applications subcommittee will take us.

If you or your colleagues are interested in joining an OmniAir Working Group, we have an easy sign-up form on our website, or contact Kate Oldham, Sr. Director of Meetings & Membership.  If you are not yet an OmniAir member, it is easy to join.

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, is bringing the world’s largest testing event for connected vehicles and infrastructure to the Lone Star State.

OmniAir Lone Star Plugfest will take place the week of April 27-May 1, bringing together leading automotive OEMs, device manufacturers, test labs, and test equipment providers from around the world.

OmniAir® is partnering with the City of Austin and NXP to host the week-long event, which will feature the only comprehensive testing for both C-V2X and DSRC devices, including bench conformance, security, interoperability, and field performance testing.

“Austin is a perfect city to host an OmniAir Plugfest because Austin is committed to collaboration, progress, and innovation,” said Jason JonMichael, Assistant Director – Smart Mobility at City of Austin. “OmniAir Plugfest’s are the premier testing events for Connected Vehicles because they propel technology forward by offering informative sessions that address concerns around policy, cybersecurity, and safety applications. I am looking forward to welcoming OmniAir and its members to our great city.”

OmniAir’s Connected Vehicle Policy Conference, will take place during Plugfest, featuring experts from government, academia, and industry addressing key policy and technical issues impacting the connected vehicle industry.

Prior OmniAir Plugfest attendees will notice a fresh format that will provide more learning and networking opportunities for those not engaged in testing. Guided tours of Austin’s V2X test beds and smart mobility projects, hands-on learning sessions and technology demonstrations will be offered on both sides of the main policy conference. The policy conference is a full-day event that will take place mid-week, on Wednesday, April 29, followed by a networking reception.

OmniAir Consortium, which launched the world’s first certification program for DSRC-V2X devices in 2017, is developing a new certification program for C-V2X (LTE-V2X PC5), which is expected to launch in Q3.

OmniAir Lone Star Plugfest is the only testing event to offer comprehensive conformance, interoperability, security, and field performance testing for both DSRC and C-V2X devices.

Who typically attends an OmniAir Plugfest?

OmniAir Plugfests draw device manufacturers, Tier One Suppliers, chipset providers, OEMs, deploying agencies, and leading engineering firms from Asia, Europe, and North America.
