OmniAir Consortium, the world’s leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for connected vehicles, tolling and ITS, adds the 3M, 5.9 GHz Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) Test Tool to our list of OmniAir Qualified Test Equipment (QTE) for our Connected Vehicle Certification Program. This third-party certification program promotes national and global interoperability of V2X devices to ensure basic safety messages are communicated between manned, automated and autonomous vehicles and transportation infrastructure.

The 3M test tool is an independent multi-channel listening device, which verifies transmitted data and protocols for connected vehicle technology. This multi-channel radio listening device detects transmissions from road-side units (RSU) and on-board units (OBU) and simultaneously monitors the 10 MHz and 20 MHz safety channels.

“Adding a wide-variety of qualified tools and systems allows for greater competition and choice among our OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories (OATL) and device makers seeking certification,” said Jason Conley,  Executive Director for OmniAir Consortium. “Utilizing qualified tools for V2X device testing  helps maintain a high-level of credibility as devices undergo testing to rigorous industry standards for conformance and interoperability.”

This tool is the latest generation technology produced by 3M for the transportation industry. This tool will be utilized to test vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) communications, traffic congestion mitigation, traffic safety, automated safety with connectivity and device interoperability.

The data is decoded through Wireshark providing Radiotap 802.11 Frame, 802.3, LLC, 1609.3 WSMP, 1609.2 Security, J2735 BSM Part I & II, WSA, TIM, and SPaT. The data is compiled either as a single or separate PCAP files depending on needs of the tester and each packet is date and time stamped for analysis.
