Austin Transportation Department, a leader in testing and deploying emerging mobility solutions, has joined OmniAir Consortium as an Executive-Level Member. Austin Transportation Department joins OmniAir and its members to help ensure that Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies deployed in cities like Austin are interoperable and conform with industry standards.
“The Austin Transportation Department joined OmniAir as we recognize that standards implementation, certification, and interoperability are paramount to the successful deployment of emerging technologies, like connected vehicles,” said Jason JonMichael, Austin Transportation Department, Assistant Director, Smart Mobility. “The work OmniAir is pioneering with connected vehicle technology will help solve many of the mobility and transportation safety needs of Austin’s residents, business and visitors in addition to other cities across the country.”

Austin’s Smart Mobility Roadmap provides a comprehensive vision for achieving smart mobility technologies in the region. The City of Austin is home to some of the earliest autonomous vehicle testing in the nation. Texas is one of the twenty-one states to have passed legislation to open the door to AV and connected vehicle testing.
