OmniAir Consortium®, the leading, global industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, is closing out 2019 strong by announcing our ninth OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory (OATL), The Korea Automotive Technology Institute (KATECH).
KATECH passed an exhaustive audit, making them the third test laboratory to earn OATL status in Asia. KATECH, located in Cheonan, Korea, is the latest OATL to test Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) based onboard-unit (OBU) devices. KATECH’s test facility is Korea’s only research and development institute specializing in auto parts providing comprehensive and systematic technical support playing a leading role in technology development.
“OmniAir® is excited to add the KATECH to our growing portfolio OATL’s as we expanded our global network of test laboratories said Jason Conley, Executive Director for OmniAir. “OmniAir now has three laboratories in Asia, five in North America and one in Europe.”
OmniAir Consortium brings together leading automotive, ITS, and technology stakeholders for the express purpose of advancing wireless communications used in transportation. OmniAir and its members have worked collaboratively with transportation stakeholders to develop requirements and specifications for both tolling and connected vehicles.
OmniAir’s certification program provides third-party accredited laboratory testing and validation of DSRC-based vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) devices to ensure that device manufacturers, suppliers, and automotive OEMs entering the V2X market develop products that conform to industry protocol standards and specifications, to bring about trusted device communications.
OmniAir is currently developing a C-V2X certification program that is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2020.
