2021 was an incredibly productive year for OmniAir Consortium® and our members! We developed multiple new programs, hosting two in-person Plugfests and OmniAir’s first Women-in-S.T.E.M. events.

OmniAir® launched the world’s first LTE-V2X Certification Program, a new Field Test Site Authorization Program, and a Module-Level Certification Program.

We authorized new test laboratories for LTE-V2X in Korea and Spain, one new laboratory for RFID tolling in Virginia, and our first authorized field test site in New Mexico.

In 2021, OmniAir’s Tolling & Emerging Payments Technology Working Group completed work on a Multi-Protocol Tolling Certification program. For the first time, this new program will allow OmniAir to test and certify tri-protocol tolling tags and readers—helping to advance national toll interoperability. This new certification program will be available in early Q1.

2022 promises to be an even more exciting and productive year and includes several major initiatives:

  • V2X-based Tolling and Road User Charging (RUC) Initiative – OmniAir has established a new working group to identify user needs and to advance certification V2X-based tolling transactions, mobile-based tolling, and RUC payments. This will include technical workstreams, as well as stakeholder engagement
  • V2X Safety Applications – Building on the successful testing of 8 different V2X-based safety applications at last year’s Michigan and Ohio Plugfests, OmniAir is working toward the development of a new certification program for applications
  • Cybersecurity – OmniAir’s Cybersecurity Working Group is continuing to develop test specifications for 802.2.1
  • Expand our Authorized Field Test Sites for both Tolling and V2X and incorporate Reference Devices into these programs
  • Support the LTE V2X rollout through readiness testing for test equipment, test laboratories, and OBU and RSU providers

In order to carry our projects through the new year and beyond, OmniAir relies on the contributions of our volunteer members. All OmniAir working groups meet twice a month. To sign up please complete the online working group application found here https://omniair.org/join-working-group-form/.
