OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, is pleased to announce that Kapsch’s Janus MPR-2.4 Interior Reader and Janus MPR-4.1 Exterior Reader have earned OmniAir Certification® for Open Road Tolling under the 6C (MPD)-RFID R2.0 conformance assessment program.

Both devices were rigorously tested by DEKRA at their laboratory in Sterling, Virginia, with field evaluations conducted at SunTrax in Auburndale, Florida. The Kapsch Janus readers demonstrated compliance with Release 2 test cases for ISO/IEC 18000-63 (6C) single- and multi-protocol UHF RFID tolling in transportation environments.

“Kapsch’s Janus readers represent a significant step forward in tolling technology,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir®. “OmniAir Certification assures deploying agencies that these readers meet rigorous performance and interoperability standards, critical for today’s rapidly evolving tolling infrastructure.”

Built on a flexible and scalable architecture, Kapsch’s JANUS Multi-Protocol Readers are designed to support all major North American tolling protocols. The MPR-2.4 and MPR-4.1 models are the industry’s only truly redundant multi-protocol readers, offering eight individual RF channels for flexible and cost-effective deployments.

The MPR-2.4 interior reader, in particular, offers streamlined installation and integration, along with advanced time-sharing capabilities for multiple protocols—making it ideal for agencies seeking to optimize protocol capture and ease the transition to an interoperable future.

OmniAir Certification provides independent, third-party testing for RFID tolling devices and connected vehicle technologies, including both C-V2X and DSRC OBUs and RSUs.
