OmniAir Consortium®, in partnership with SCMS Manager, will host the OmniAir Michigan Plugfest the week of October 6-10 at the world-class American Center for Mobility (ACM) automotive test facility and proving grounds in Ypsilanti, Michigan, just outside of Detroit.

“We are excited to bring OmniAir Plugfest back to Michigan—the beating heart of the global automotive industry,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “This OmniAir Plugfest will help to ensure the availability of trusted, interoperable C-V2X technology is ready to deploy across our nation—and around the world.”

OmniAir Plugfests are the premier testing events for connected vehicles.  These events bring together leading automotive OEMs, Tier One Suppliers, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology providers, test laboratories, test systems providers, and infrastructure owner-operators (IOO) for a week of comprehensive testing in laboratory and field environments.  In addition to testing, OmniAir Plugfests feature technical learning sessions throughout the week, a one-day workshop, and live technology demonstrations.

The theme of this Plugfest will be interoperability and readiness for deployment.  Participants will have the opportunity for device-to-device testing, V2X application testing, and security, along with standards conformance testing. Testing will be available for C-V2X OBUs, RSUs, and modules.

This year’s Plugfest will incorporate SCMS Manager profiles and certificate policies, thanks to a new collaboration between OmniAir and the SCMS Manager.  By integrating security certificate management into Plugfest activities, participants will have the opportunity to validate devices not only for OmniAir Certification and interoperability, but also for compliance with critical V2X security policies. This ensures a more complete readiness path for real-world deployment.

OmniAir Plugfests are part of a comprehensive readiness program that helps engineering teams prepare for device certification and deployment.  OmniAir Certification ensures that deployers can trust V2X equipment and technology to be secure, interoperable, and compliant with industry standards.

Host Facility

Testing will take place at the American Center for Mobility’s 500-acre automotive proving ground, test facility, and event destination, where automotive companies can research, develop, test, and showcase advanced mobile technologies.

With a focus on safe, sustainable, and secure innovations, ACM provides a confidential and real-world environment for testing. With its test track, garage labs, and numerous resources, our goal is to support your company’s efforts to shape the future of the automotive industry.

ACM is conveniently located near the Detroit International Airport and is a short drive from the attractions of nearby Detroit and Ann Arbor.

OmniAir Consortium® has launched a new initiative to develop certification tests for cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) misbehavior detection.

OmniAir’s new Misbehavior Detection Tiger Team will focus on the problem of C-V2X devices transmitting bad data, either willfully or unintentionally.  This misbehavior can be due to software glitches, hardware failures, or even deliberate attacks. A misbehavior detection mechanism can help to minimize the risks of inaccurate data and to ensure that potentially malicious users can be removed from the V2X ecosystem.

Dr. Anthony Lopez of Qualcomm is leading the new tiger team, as part of OmniAir’s Cybersecurity Working Group, chaired by Brian Romansky of INTEGRITY Security Services.

The goal is to develop standardized, interoperable testing procedures to support evolving V2X security requirements. The initial session provided valuable clarity around architectural considerations, tooling assumptions, and key terminology, laying a solid foundation for the technical work ahead.

The team will investigate how to simulate and to detect misbehavior and seek consensus on message formats and certificate revocation list (CRL) distribution methods.  A focus will be to create realistic, repeatable, and vendor-neutral test cases, starting with a basic test framework that will expand over time. The development of well-defined test cases is expected to motivate and challenge device manufacturers to develop the functionality to fully support the end-to-end misbehavior detection process.

We encourage interested OmniAir members, especially those with expertise in V2X security, to join the effort. The kick-off meeting took place last week.  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 14.

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for connected vehicles, tolling, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), is proud to announce that Ettifos’ V2X-AIR On-Board Unit (OBU) has earned OmniAir Certification.

V2X-AIR is a compact aftermarket OBU built on the Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) standard, designed to support a wide range of connected vehicle applications—from basic safety to mobility services. Its lightweight, plug-and-play design allows for quick in-vehicle installation and integration with smartphone applications, providing a versatile solution for both passenger and commercial vehicles.

The device successfully met OmniAir’s rigorous certification requirements for interoperability, performance, and security, confirming its readiness for deployment in major global markets, including the United States.

“Ettifos’ achievement with the V2X-AIR on-board unit reinforces the growing momentum of C-V2X deployment around the world,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “Their successful certification demonstrates a strong commitment to interoperability, security, and advancing global connected vehicle solutions.”

The certification process was completed in collaboration with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA), the only OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratory in South Korea. V2X-AIR’s successful qualification underscores the growing ecosystem of certified C-V2X solutions in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

This milestone adds to V2X-AIR’s previous recognition under South Korea’s KC certification, further demonstrating the device’s compliance with national and international standards.

OmniAir Certification® plays a critical role in ensuring that connected vehicle devices can securely and reliably communicate across manufacturers, regions, and infrastructure. With this latest certification, Ettifos joins a growing list of trusted suppliers working to accelerate global V2X deployment.

Ettifos has announced plans to certify additional products, including its line of Roadside Units (RSUs), by mid-2025—strengthening the company’s position in the evolving global V2X landscape.
