DriveOhio, an initiative of the Ohio Department of Transportation, and a statewide center for advancing smart mobility solutions, has joined OmniAir Consortium®.

Ohio is home to dozens of public and private entities involved in the design, development, testing, use, and regulation of autonomous and connected technologies. DriveOhio brings all of these organizations together under one umbrella, serving as the hub for all things autonomous and connected in Ohio.

DriveOhio also works to ensure Ohio’s regulatory environment and public policies are conducive to the development of the infrastructure and technologies needed for smart mobility. Instead of asking companies to work simultaneously with multiple agencies, DriveOhio is a one-stop-shop for those developing, testing and deploying advanced mobility solutions in Ohio.

“DriveOhio’s commitment to the testing and deployment of connected and self-driving technologies is impressive.” said Jason Conley, Executive Director for OmniAir®. “DriveOhio’s innovative approach is one of the reasons Ohio is recognized as a national leader in transportation innovation. We look forward to working together to help advance OmniAir’s testing and certification programs for V2X.”

Formed in 2018, DriveOhio was recently re-authorized by an executive order signed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, as the statewide center for smart mobility solutions.  Ohio currently has six designated “smart” projects aimed at testing real-world autonomous and connected technologies, with more on the way.

Ford Motor Company, one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers, and provider of advanced mobility solutions has joined OmniAir Consortium®.

Based in Dearborn, Michigan, the company designs, manufactures, markets and services a full line of Ford cars, trucks, SUVs, electrified vehicles and Lincoln luxury vehicles, provides financial services through Ford Motor Credit Company, and is pursuing leadership positions in electrification, autonomous vehicles, and mobility solutions. Ford employs approximately 191,000 people worldwide.

“We are excited to have a world-class company like Ford as OmniAir’s newest member,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “Ford’s expertise and experience in the development and deployment of life-saving C-V2X technologies, will help OmniAir® to advance its mission of providing certification and interoperability for connected vehicles and infrastructure.”

Ford was the first automaker to announce a definitive timeline for the introduction of C-V2X communications in the United States. Ford plans to install this technology on its newly launched U.S. vehicles beginning in 2022, and within a few years all of the over 2 million vehicles Ford manufactures each year in this country will have it.

OmniAir, together with our 80 member companies around the globe, is developing the world’s first comprehensive testing and certification program for C-V2X (PC5 LTE-V2X) devices. This program is expected to launch in Q3.

The Intelligent Transport Society of Korea (“ITS Korea“) has joined OmniAir Consortium® as an Executive-Level Member.

This is the first international intelligent transportation organization to become an OmniAir® member, and will help to deepen OmniAir’s ties with intelligent ITS stakeholders in Korea, and help to promote the alignment of V2X testing and certification programs between Asia and North America.

“Korea is a recognized leader in the deployment of life-saving connected vehicle technologies,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium.  “We are excited to have ITS Korea as our newest Executive Level Member, helping to shape the future of OmniAir’s certification programs around the world.”

Founded in 1999, ITS Korea’s mission is to promote mutual cooperation among the public and private sectors for efficient implementation of intelligent transportation systems (“ITS”) and to contribute to the development of the ITS field through various research, policy consultation, technology promotion, and business activities related to ITS.

ITS Korea is the organization dedicated to ITS standardization, designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (“MOLIT”), which evaluates and determines the compliance with technical regulations based on Korea’s National Transport System Efficiency Act and its enforcement ordinance and enforcement regulations.

OmniAir Consortium and ITS Korea have entered into agreements to help promote interoperability and certification for V2X connected vehicle technologies.

ITS Korea and OmniAir are working cooperatively to ensure that testing and certification programs for OBUs and RSUs in the United States and Korea are aligned.  The organizations have formed a “United States – Korea Cooperation Committee,” which is working toward establishment of a joint certification mark, and other activities to promote harmonization of testing and certification efforts.
