OmniAir Consortium® issues a Call for Technology Demonstrations for the upcoming OmniAir Mcity Plugfest. OmniAir® is seeking vendors interested in demonstrating cutting-edge vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies, use cases, and testing techniques.

The OmniAir Mcity Plugfest, hosted by UMTRI, is a week-long connected vehicle testing event, scheduled for May 13-17 at the Mcity Test Facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

OmniAir Plugfests are the premier testing events for connected vehicles, bringing together connected vehicle technology providers, test laboratories, and test equipment providers from around the world for a week of interoperability, conformance, and security testing in lab and field environments.

On May 15, in conjunction with the Plugfest, OmniAir will host a one-day Connected Mobility Workshop, featuring leading experts in connected and automated vehicle testing and deployment. Technology demonstrations will take place during the workshop, and throughout the week.

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, has published its technical roadmap to guide the organization’s workstream on conformance and interoperability testing programs over the next five years.

The OmniAir Technical Roadmap identifies priorities for developing program scopes, drafting test cases, and other technical work to support OmniAir’s testing and certification programs for wireless communications technologies in transportation.

Approved at the OmniAir Board of Directors June Meeting, this roadmap identifies and prioritizes technical workstreams across OmniAir’s Working Groups and Sub-Working Groups in the following areas:

  • Certification Policy
  • V2X Technology
  • Roadside Infrastructure
  • Cybersecurity & SCMS
  • Safety Applications 
  • Tolling & Emerging Payment Technologies
  • Road Usage Charge (RUC)

OmniAir’s Technical Roadmap identifies priorities for technical work, including, C-V2X aftermarket safety devices, 5G-V2X (Release 16), certifying V2X safety applications, and 3rd party mobile payment applications for tolling. In addition, the document outlines priorities for adapting OmniAir certification programs for standards in Asia and Europe.

OmniAir Working Groups will also update existing LTE-V2X and RFID tolling certification programs to ensure that OmniAir Certified devices conform to the latest and most relevant industry standards.

Job Title:             Manager, Technology Programs

Job Description:   OmniAir Consortium® seeks an experienced RF engineer, with verification testing experience for a position of Manager, Technology Programs.  This is a key technical role in the leading certification organization for transportation technologies.

This is a full-time position with an immediate start.  The successful candidate will have excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.  A strong work ethic and a positive attitude are a must.  Interest in transportation or technology issues is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance certification scopes in Tolling, Payment Systems and Connected Vehicles in surface vehicle transportation sector domestically and developing international opportunities.
  • Working with Radio Communications (RFID, DSRC, C-V2X, & 5G), security and testing compliance/interoperability.
  • Participate in associated standards, regulatory and industry associations with their requirement documents and leveraging them to develop and implement certification scopes for trusted transportation communications.
  • Manage and facilitate technical aspects in OmniAir Working Groups.
  • Auditing Test Equipment and Test Laboratories for Compliance and Authorization
  • Technical Writing in developing Test Cases and Certification Scopes.
  • Develop Software Language Analysis Tools (such as Python Scripting).
  • Track certification services applications.
  • Process and review device certification applications, test reports, and grants.

Requirements

  • At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, preferably Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science or other engineering field is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong understanding of wireless technologies.
  • Hands-on experience working with Radio Communications (RFID, DSRC, Cellular), security and testing compliance/interoperability.
  • Excellent communications and consensus building skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Technical writing capabilities and experience.
  • Electronics Testing Knowledge from Standards, Safety, Regulatory and Security perspective.
  • Project Management experience preferred.
  • Software scripting language/s preferred.

OmniAir Consortium’s Motor City Plugfest, the premier testing event for vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies, will include a focus on automotive cybersecurity and security testing for Connected Vehicle technologies.

The OmniAir event, hosted at Intertek’s facility in Plymouth, Michigan, and the American Center for Mobility’s test facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan will address a range of technical and policy issues related to V2X security, in addition to other aspects of DSRC V2X interoperability and conformance.

On Monday, May 7, OmniAir’s Connected Vehicle Workshop will include a panel discussion on V2X security. Moderated by David Olive of Catalyst Partners, this panel will explore government and industry efforts to cybersecurity for connected vehicles, including testing, certification, and voluntary guidelines. Panelists include Raymond Resendes, U.S. Department of Transportation; Kristina Pfosi, Global Vehicle Security, FCA Fiat Chrysler; John Neal, Business Development & Government Affairs; NXP, David Sequino, President, INTEGRITY Security Services; and Jaeson Yoo, Chief Security Evangelist, Penta Security.

On Wednesday, May 8, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s ITS Joint Program Office will host a Stakeholder Dialogue on the Future of a Large-Scale Deployment Security Credential Management System (SCMS). This will provide participants with insights into USDOT’s vision for the future of security and message authentication beyond the current system developed for the Connected Vehicle pilots. Joaquin Torrecilla Torregrosa from DEKRA will provide an in-depth discussion of security for V2X technologies around the world.

On Thursday, May 10, OmniAir’s Cybersecurity Working Group will hold an in-person meeting to discuss OmniAir’s plans for incorporating device security testing into its DSRC V2X Certification Program. The Working Group includes representatives from leading test labs, device manufacturers, cryptography experts, and others. Participation is open to all OmniAir members and invited guests.

Throughout the week, OmniAir will provide participants over 400 test sessions with 15 leading test labs and test tool providers for intensive bench conformance, interoperability, and field testing, including testing stations dedicated to IEEE 1609.2 security testing.

INTEGRITY Security Services will be issuing Plugfest certificates for all devices and test tool providers. In addition, other certificate providers will have security certificates available for testing, including ESRCYPT, Penta Security, and Blackberry/Certicom.
