OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for connected vehicles, ITS, and transportation payment systems, announces that the Savari MobiWAVE® On-Board-Unit (OBU) conforms to industry protocol standards and specifications and has earned OmniAir Certification.

OmniAir® has certified the DSRC radio configuration, of the Dual-Mode C-V2X/DSRC MobiWAVE 2000 OBU. The MobiWAVE conforms to the Release 1 test cases generated from IEEE 802.11:2012 and 2016’s IEEE 1609, SAE J2735, and SAE J2945.1 standards applied in the Connected Vehicle transportation environment.

“Congratulations to Savari for earning its first OmniAir Certification for a V2X radio,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director for OmniAir. “OmniAir only awards certification to trusted communications devices that conform to industry standards, and meet minimum interoperability and security requirements.”

“Achieving OmniAir Certification for our MobiWAVE OBU is a major milestone in our mission to make the world’s roadways safer and smarter through the use of trusted and secure V2X solutions,” said Paul Sakamoto, Chief Operations Officer for Savari. “Earning OmniAir Certification for a V2X solution is not easy. The OmniAir Certification mark is a sign of the quality and interoperability that the automotive market is demanding.”

OmniAir® has offered certification for DSRC-V2X devices since 2017 and is preparing to launch the world’s first comprehensive certification program for C-V2X devices (PC5), in the fourth quarter of 2020.

This new program will help to meet the growing demand by deploying agencies for trusted communications devices for connected vehicles and connected infrastructure.

The OmniAir C-V2X Certification program will ensure that trusted C-V2X devices conform with industry standards, and meet minimal interoperability, security, and performance requirements as our certified DSRC devices.

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles announced that it has released its initial set of test cases developed specifically for C-V2X technology.  These new test cases will form the basis for a new, independent, third-party testing and certification program for C-V2X technologies to be offered by OmniAir Consortium.

Over the past twelve months, OmniAir® members have developed the first comprehensive set of test cases for C-V2X (PC5) radios, based on industry standards.  These include new test cases for On-Board Units (OBU) and Roadside Units (RSUs).  Many test cases are based on existing test specifications for OmniAir’s existing certification program for DSRC-V2X radios.

OmniAir C-V2X Test Cases are Based on the Following Standards:

  • 3GPP 36-521 & 36-523 Radio Transmissions & Receptions
  • SAE J3161/1:2020 OBU LTE-V2X Communications
  • IEEE 1609.2:2017, 2a & 2b:2019 Security Services
  • IEEE 1609.2.1(CAMP):2020 SCMS & Certificates
  • IEEE 1609.3:2020 Network Services
  • IEEE 1609.4:2016 Multi-Channel Operations
  • SAE J2735 Message Decoding
  • SAE J2945/1:2020 V2V Minimum Performance
  • SAE J2945/1 & /1A:2020 BSM Checklist Driving Test
  • SAE J2945/1A:2020 BSM Min. Performance & Location Accuracy Field Testing
  • SAE J2735 SPAT per 783-OA-TSS&TP-SPAT
  • SAE J2735 MAP per 782-OA-TSS&TP-MAP

“The development of over 300 new OmniAir test cases for C-V2X radios is a major milestone for the industry,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director for OmniAir Consortium. “This will help ensure that C-V2X radios will meet the same rigorous, independent testing and certification process as other connected vehicle communications technologies.”

OmniAir’s initial C-V2X test cases will be evaluated during the OmniAir Global Plugfest, scheduled to begin September 28.  OmniAir Plugfests are the premier testing event for connected vehicle technologies, bringing together leading device manufacturers, test laboratories, test equipment providers from around the world.  This year’s event will offer remote field, bench, and security testing at six locations across Europe, Asia, and North America over a three-week period.

The draft plugfest test plan will be made available in advance of this event exclusively to OmniAir members, as well as registered participants of the OmniAir Global Plugfest.  Testing will help to strengthen and validate our initial test cases in advance of the launch of OmniAir’s C-V2X Certification program later this year.

If you are interested in participating in the OmniAir Global Plugfest to demonstrate your C-V2X device capabilities and readiness, contact Ryan Hall, Sr. Director of Marketing & Business Development.

Today, OmniAir is proud to announce our worldwide connected vehicle testing event – the OmniAir Global Plugfest!

For the first time, OmniAir will offer testing at locations across three continents, North America, Europe, and Asia!

This full-scale event will allow participants the opportunity to participate in virtual networking, tune into content from industry experts and thought leaders, and engage in extensive conformance and interoperability testing from the comfort of their home office.

This year’s event will feature testing hubs, strategically placed around the world, to provide access to vendors from the ease of their computers.

Testing will consist of a combination of on-site testing, conducted by OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories (OATL) personnel, and virtual witnessing for C-V2X and DSRC devices at each location. Participating device manufactures will have the option of accompanying their device at each hub or send a device to each test hub and participate virtually.

What’s New This Year

V2X device makers will have the opportunity to have their units tested at each participating hub, by OmniAir technical staff and OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories Bureau Veritas, DEKRA, SGS, and TTA. Test laboratories will be utilizing OmniAir Qualified Test Equipment, and OmniAir member test equipment from Anritsu, Danlaw, Keysight, Rohde & Schwarz, S.E.A., Spirent, SwRI, Vector and Wayties.
