On March 5-6, Omniair Executive Member Qualcomm hosted a small technical workshop for interested members from Bureau Veritas, SGS, SwRI and TUV SUD at Qualcomm’s San Diego, California headquarters in preparation of a larger C-V2X  presence during May’s Quebec Plugfest.

This event was the first of upcoming workshops OmniAir will offer our members as we begin to engage stakeholders in the development of an OmniAir C-V2X certification program. During our last Board of Directors meeting in February, C-V2X certification was one of four high-priority initiatives identified by the board to actively pursue.

The two-day technical seminar discussed subjects ranging from radio functionality, advance features, V2X testing, test tools, time/location accuracy, and PC5 test cases to a deep dive into everything C-V2X. OmniAir provided a certification overview for Qualcomm’s C-V2X staff.  SwRI provided an in-depth review of their field OBU evaluation tool becoming commercially available covering GNSS location accuracy and DSRCBSM performance.  This test tool will be operated at upcoming Quebec Plugfest for device conformance and test laboratory evaluations.

Members discussed the need to add a greater level of interoperability and field testing during the Quebec Plugfest and brought up concerns about co-existence during the event when both DSRC and C-V2X devices are operating in tandem.

If your company would like to host the next workshop, please contact Ryan Hall, Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development. rhall@omniair.org

OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, along with Propulsion Québec, the province’s cluster for electric and smart transportation, announce a premiere connected vehicle testing event, to take place in the greater Montreal metropolitan area, May 6-10.

The OmniAir Québec Plugfest, hosted by Propulsion Québec is a five-day event where the global vehicle-to-everything (V2X) community comes together to advance this life-saving communications technology. The connected vehicle workshop and the week-long testing event will take place at Transport Canada’s Motor Vehicle Test Centre operated by PMG Technologies in Blainville, Canada.

“OmniAir is excited to partner with Propulsion Quebec to host our next Plugfest and V2X Policy Conference,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “Quebec’s growing reputation as a leader in smart transportation and sustainable mobility makes it a natural choice for OmniAir and our members.”

“We are proud to host the first international edition of the OmniAir Plugfest!,” said Sarah Houde, Propulsion Québec’s CEO. “Québec has a rich and flourishing electric and smart transportation ecosystem, and its global leadership in developing and testing technologies to connect vehicles is now widely recognized. The OmniAir Québec Plugfest is the perfect opportunity for members of both our organizations to gather and advance research in this booming industry.”

The Québec Plugfest will be OmniAir’s fourth connected vehicle event where participants will test both DSRC and C-V2X based connected vehicle devices. Over the past two years, OmniAir Plugfests have grown in complexity and scale culminating in our largest event to date, the Québec Plugfest. Every OmniAir Plugfest event has sold out at least two weeks before registration closed.
