The Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) has joined OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles.
Maricopa County is the fourth-most populous county in the United States, and the MCDOT plans, designs, constructs, and maintains roadways primarily in the county’s unincorporated areas.
As a member of OmniAir, MCDOT will gain access to valuable resources, technical expertise, and a network of industry leaders dedicated to enhancing the efficacy of connected vehicle technologies.
“We are excited to welcome Maricopa County DOT, one of the nation’s leading infrastructure owner-operators, as our newest member,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir. “Maricopa County’s expertise and experience in deploying intelligent transportation systems and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technologies will help to advance OmniAir’s testing and certification programs.”
In June, Maricopa County was awarded a $19.6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for a largescale deployment of V2X technologies, connecting 750 RSUs and OBUs. Maricopa was one of only three grant recipients, including locations in Texas and Utah, selected to serve as a national model for deploying V2X to help save lives on our nation’s roadways.
