OmniAir Consortium®, the leading industry association promoting interoperability and certification for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles, is launching a new Working Group focused on the testing and certification of C-V2X Aftermarket Safety Devices.

There is a growing demand for connected mobility solutions that provide immediate safety benefits to vulnerable road users such as bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders.  To meet this demand, vendors are developing and deploying aftermarket solutions that can easily be installed in cars, buses, and bicycles.

OmniAir® Members SPOKE, Commisgnia, and Autotalks have all announced solutions to bring C-V2X safety benefits to protect vulnerable road users (VRU), including bicyclists and pedestrians. Likewise, members like Ettifos and Danlaw are developing solutions for transit and emergency vehicle fleets.

ASDs can differ from traditional C-V2X OnBoard Units (OBU) in distinct ways, including form factor and functionality.  OmniAir’s new ASD Working Group will focus on developing requirements and specifications for C-V2X aftermarket solutions.

“Extending the safety benefits of connected vehicles to everyone, including the most vulnerable road users, should be a priority,” said Jason Conley, Executive Director of OmniAir Consortium. “OmniAir is committed to helping support the deployment of C-V2X ASDs through testing and certification.”

The initial focus of the working group will be to develop requirements and a program scope for the program, followed by the development of test cases.

The new OmniAir ASD Working Group will hold its inaugural meeting on Thursday, September 7, at 11 am ET. The inaugural meeting of the Working Group will be open to all OmniAir Members and invited guests.

Interested parties are invited to apply to join the working group online, or send an email to OmniAir’s Berkenda Cantlo for more information.
