OmniAir’s certification program is similar to certification programs in the wireless industry, in that OmniAir will offer certification to member companies. OmniAir will offer device testing through our network of OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories (OATL). Vendors will also be required to remain members-in-good standing to continue to use the OmniAir certification mark and to have their product listed in our qualified product directory.
“Independent, third party certification for interoperable devices is a vital step that reveals a level of readiness and maturity of the technology,” said OmniAir Consortiums, Executive Director Jason Conley. “Security certificate authorities, like INTEGRITY Security Services, are also looking at third party certification.” “In full production, the ISS Certificate Management Service will expect device and intermediate CAs to meet the standards defined by the US DOT and OmniAir,” said David Sequino, General Manager of ISS.
OmniAir’s Plugfest is designed to help device manufacturers, suppliers, and automotive OEMs entering the V2X market to prepare for certification. During the Plugfest, vendors will be able to verify the level of readiness for each apparatus. This step can potentially save a company tens-of-thousands of dollars in the certification process. Without participating in the OmniAir Plugfest, the only way to validate the device is to formally engage in OmniAir’s certification process.
Over the next month, OmniAir will publish a fee schedule for our members and provide a list of authorized test laboratories and qualified test equipment. On October 1, OmniAir will begin accepting applications for device certification.
OmniAir Consortium was founded over 10 years ago, with the express purpose of promoting interoperability of intelligent transportation technologies. OmniAir and its members have worked collaboratively with transportation stakeholders to develop requirements and specifications for both RFID for tolling and DSRC for Connected Vehicles.
In 2012, OmniAir launched its first certification program for 6C-for-Tolling. Through our OmniAir Authorized Test Laboratories, OmniAir offers device testing and certification to ensure that toll tags and readers are interoperable and conform with industry standards.
OmniAir is currently leading testing of protocols for electronic toll collection in partnership with the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA), as part of the National Toll Interoperability, as required by MAP-21.
